Do you write outlines for your blog posts

Do you write outlines for your blog posts or do you just write them of the top of your head. There are some people who spend ages thinking about what they have to say and how they should say it but I am from the camp who doesn’t bother with outlines, I just get the thought in my head and start writing.

I suppose that when you think about it, it really depends on the subject of your blog. If it is highly technical it will probably needs writing out first, never mind an outline, but I find that I can get my point over far better when I just go with the flow, so to speak.

I also think that you should be careful not to plan your blog posts to far in advance as it takes away the personality behind it. Even though I always make doubly sure that I get my point across and the information contained in the blog posts are absolutely spot on, I often ramble on in my own unique way and if I planned it all out before hand with outlines etc, I’m sure that I would lose that.

I was talking about writing outlines for blog posts with someone only the other day and they brought up a good point, what if you don’t know anything about the subject of the blog, surely it would be a case of having to write outlines then, and yes, I suppose you should, but if I had to write blog posts about a subject that I knew nothing about and also had no interest in I would find it the hardest thing in the world to do and as I value my time I would simply outsource the task for someone else who did know what they were talking about.

"Do you write outlines for your blog posts"

This is why there is most definitely a case for blogging about something that you are interested in. It really does make all of the difference and you will probably be like me with this blog, you’ll look forward to writing the blog posts and be constantly looking for new ideas and new subjects that your readers will be interested in.

You will find that after a while, writing your blog posts is like talking to friends and if the subject is about something that you love you will find that you don’t have a problem with writing enough content but writing to much. I know of bloggers who set an alarm to tell them when to stop otherwise they would be writing blog posts all day.

If you are one of the people who would prefer to write outlines for your blog posts you should take very good care as not to make the postings sound to mechanical. Depending on the subject you may find that your readers would rather something a little more natural., you may repeat yourself a couple of times but the good intentions are there and this may be what your readers would prefer.
