Viral marketing works by basically passing something around that people will find interesting which in turn makes them want to pass it on and so on and so on.
An ideal example would be a YouTube video. You have probably seen a YouTube video yourself that made you smile and you passed it on to friends and family so that they can share your amusement. The chances are that they will do the same to their friends and before you know it the video has gone viral.
The initial effort from the the first person to share the video can end up being multiplied thousands and thousands of times over and just from that simple example it is not difficult to understand why viral marketing has become so popular, especially when there is a product or service that is being promoted.
To give you another idea of how viral marketing works, you could put together a simple report which is packed full of useful information and then distribute that amongst your list if you have one whilst prompting them to pass it on to their friends. It goes without saying that this report should really be top notch.
If you are able to come up with something that people actually want to pass on to their friends and customers, you will be onto a winner and if you put your mind to it you will find it is not hard to do, just carry out a little research with regards to what people are looking for and put the information together in the form of a short report.
You may be asking yourself what is the benefit to you of viral marketing. The answer to that question is that you will brand the report with your business details and as the report is passed around, so will the name of your business. This should be in the form of a website link which will make it easy for anyone to visit your website.
Your website or blog should be prepared for the influx of traffic which will be coming its way and with that in mind you should have a facility set up to capture visitors email addresses etc. Please notice that you should wait until this stage to try and capture email addresses, not when you give out the free report. If you try to complicate things initially you will find that the viral nature of giving a report away will not be half as effective.
It goes without saying that the report that you are using for this form of viral marketing should be technically correct and free from any grammatical errors. If you just cobbled something together and it was full of mistakes it would have the totally opposite effect to that of which is required, i.e., it could do your business reputation untold damages because the viral effect would magnify any mistakes many times over.
Just take your time and you will find that viral marketing will have the potential to reward your initial efforts in a way that very few other marketing methods could ever match.
