How many mailing lists are you subscribed to

By Samantha On September 16, 2009 Under Email Marketing, List Building

Thank you for returning to our Internet Marketing Blog. To be the first to hear about updates please subscribe.

I got a shock yesterday when I discovered how many email marketing lists I am actually on right now without even knowing anything about it. Over time just like most of us I too have subscribed to other peoples Ezines so that I can find out when new products are about to be launched so that I can be part of the launch and learn from it.

But when you join a mailing list how many of their mailing lists are you subscribed to?

This is what you really need to find out about as I shockingly discovered recently. I had been recommended to join a well known internet marketers mailing list by several people so I thought that I would sign up to see what all the fuss is about. When I did I was astonished by how many emails I received in the first five days I cant remember the exact figure but we were certainly talking about double figures that is for sure. After day seven even though the content was great I had got to the end of my tether and unsubscribed as I was starting to feel rather harassed.

When I clicked on the unsubscribe link at the bottom of the Aweber message I learnt that I had been subscribed to 76 of the internet marketers lists without even asking my permission first. I thought something was suspect before because to have stacked messages set up with Aweber as a customer myself I know that you can only have one per day and I had certainly received a lot more than that.

After further research I found out that in the automation information of your lists on Aweber you have the option to set it up so that if someone joins one list they will automatically be added on to other lists that you have. But in my opinion this just adds to the amount of unsubscribes that you will receive as people really don’t like been treated like this.

I certainly don’t and after using up my time manually unsubscribing from all these lists I will NOT be returning for more as I would seriously consider this as spamming. I signed up to join a quality mailing list not 76 lists and I certainly didn’t give permission to be treated so badly. My advice to anyone that uses this automated Aweber feature to give it up for good and you will be rewarded with happy content subscribers.

Thanks for reading and I hope that my blogging advice is making the difference in showing you how to make money online for beginners. I have been creating my own income streams for many years and I am using this blog to show you the best options for creating multiple streams of income.

I love internet marketing and I hope you will enjoy the art of internet marketing just as much as I do. Make money online today and change your future!

To your online success

Thanks for sharing that Samantha – that explains a lot. I use Aweber, but I would never use the facility to sign up people to any list other than the one they think they’re joining.

Wow!
I find this a little underhanded and unethical. I’m building one list and would never even consider placing someone on a list without their knowledge.

Thanks for sharing this, Samantha.

Hi Samantha,

That’s quite an experience you had. I think a lot of people would consider getting so many emails in such a short time period to be spam as well. It’s certainly not a best practice.

I’d be curious to see an example of one of those emails you received (if you still have any of them around, of course). I’m at the email address left w/this comment. Thanks!

For some strange reason, I have actually LOST subscriptions to mailing lists – I used to get dozens and it’s just dwindled down to a trickle.

I never knew about the ability to subscribe one to another list like that – you learn something new every day.
