If you spend to much time on the various internet marketing forums you will find yourself literally bombarded with rumours regarding many different thoughts about what is effective and not so effective in the internet marketing world.
What you must never lose sight of is that the vast majority of these rumours are exactly that, rumours, and if you paid attention to everything that you read on forums you wouldn’t get any work done and you would be convinced that the sky was about to fall in!
One subject that keeps on making an appearance is the effectiveness of blogs. All it takes is for one person to say that the sales from their blog have fallen off big time over the past few days, and you will then get an avalanche of people all saying the same. It is if these people thrive on bad news and they feel compelled to jump on the bandwagon should someone else start to complain about something.
These negative blog posts seem to coincide with the emails I get which ask if it is time for people to scrap their blogs. Before I go any further I would like to make it clear that it is not the time to scrap your blogs and if I am honest I cannot ever envisage a time when I would advise you to do anything like that.
Blogging is just as effective now as it has ever been but as with any other form of internet marketing, the bloggers who try and take short cuts will be the ones who will experience problems, if you keep posting sold, informative content you could very well experience success on a level that you might have only previously imagined.
When I talk about taking short cuts I am really referring to autoblogging. Now some people may see short term results from this kind of activity but it is definitely not for me. Autoblogging is basically where content is scraped from various sources and automatically placed onĀ a blog.
It doesn’t take much imagination to realise that the quality of the blog posts is not of paramount importance to someone who works in this way so it would be a safe bet to say that when Goggle finds out that this is what is going on they will make sure that these particular blogs will not be ranking highly in the search results.
Blogging is the same as all other forms of internet marketing in that if you look for short cuts you may find that you will see some favourable results from the beginning but it really is a case of building your business on sand as opposed to solid foundations.
I have seen numerous occasions in the past where someone has a whole network of blogs which are of very poor quality but are earning money. The owner of these blogs thinks that they have discovered the secret of internet marketing and are making so much money that they focus on this stream of income completely.
Then, when Google notices what they are up to they link all of these blogs together and the owner wakes up the following morning to find that their income has gone from a few hundred dollars a day all of the way down to a big fat zero.
So, to sum it all up, it is definitely not time to scrap your blog but instead concentrate on making it something that is full of interesting and informative information which will make visitors return time and time again. You will find that by doing this you will be making excellent money for years to come.

Hi Samantha,
I have to confess that I have looked into auto blogging and the thought of not having to write all your blog posts was appealing as I am time poor.
However I am glad I rejected it as you pointed out …it is very short sighted.
Great post
Cheers
