If you really want to make a good, solid passive income you cannot really get much better than your own membership site. Making a passive income from something that you only have to do once is the true internet marketing dream and the stuff that makes the 4 hour working week available to anyone who is prepared to put the effort in.

A membership site has to offer something that will make the members want to keep being a member of and to continue paying the membership subscription. These subscriptions are usually paid monthly but in some cases you will find the subscription is paid quarterly of annually.

There are plug ins available which can make a membership site out of a wordpress blog but there are many other options available to you, I saw a very effective membership site recently which was put together using the Xsite pro software.

There will always be a number of people who will cancel their membership along the way. If the quality of the membership site is top notch then the attrition rate will obviously be far lower but people will always leave. Don’t take this personally but it is a good idea to ask them why they are leaving as you may spot something that you can improve on.

The most common question from anyone who is thinking of building a membership site is, ‘What subject can I set up a membership site on’. Well, you would be surprised by what people would be prepared to pay a monthly fee for, if you like writing you could set up a membership site which offers an article writing service or even plr articles, you may be a keen gardener who can offer a membership site about rose growing secrets, what about a membership site that offers knitting patterns every month.

The list really is endless and when you start doing the math, the opportunities become ever so apparent. A monthly fee of  $17 and 100 members will give you a monthly income of  £1700, what about 200 members, what if it was a monthly fee of $37, do you see what I mean?

I always remember reading about a company in the UK, before the days of the internet membership sites. This was a company that offered a list of competitions that were available to enter to win various prizes. This was sent out in the form of a magazine on a monthly basis. Doesn’t sound brilliant does it, but what if I told you that from this membership the company was making several million pounds per year. Perhaps a good idea for an internet membership site?

The great thing is you could have multiple membership sites, all running automatically and each one earning you a passive income. There is a perceived large barrier to entry for putting out a membership site which is good news for the people that know that this is just not true because it means that there is much less competition.
