Affiliate programs are a great way to make money blogging, especially the Amazon affiliate program. Most people recognize and trust Amazon, and are very likely to purchase there. So, your work is halfway done. If you can get people to click on your links, there is a good chance they will purchase something within the 24 hour window. Also, Amazon has a good history of paying reliably, so when you sign up as an affiliate, you don’t have to worry about not getting paid.
Once you sign up with Amazon, you have to choose which products you want to promote on your blog. So, how do you do this?
- Pick products that are relevant to your blog. I know this sounds self-explanatory, but it can make a huge difference. If you run a blog about health and exercising, your readers might not want to buy a book of decadent dessert recipes. If you link to stuff like that, you’re not going to make money blogging using Amazon affiliate links, because your readers won’t click on your links.
- Make sure the products you’re promoting aren’t on the Amazon excluded products list. Amazon excludes certain products from their associates program, and doesn’t pay on them. You don’t want to promote products you won’t get paid on. You can find the list in your Amazon Associates account, and it will look like this:
- Promote popular products with good reviews. When you’re choosing products to talk about on your blog, make sure to pick products that have mostly positive reviews. People do take into account a products rating when purchasing from Amazon, so if you pick products with good reviews, you’ll be more likely to make sales.
- Review products honestly. If you’re doing a review of a product you’ve used, mention both the pros and the cons of the product. Of course, if you want to make money blogging with Amazon affiliate links, you’ll want to be able to mention more pros than cons. And the same with a product you haven’t used. If you dedicate an entry to a product you haven’t used, you can say something like, “most reviews say <positive comments>, while a few reviews mention <small negative thing.>
