My Definition Of Viral Marketing

Viral marketing is an extremely powerful form of marketing but as is usually the case, it is often made out to be far more complicated than it really is. If I had listened to some of the methods of viral marketing that are going around before I started I really don’t think that I would have bothered.

My definition of viral marketing is simply giving something away that will help to promote your business. Sounds a little bit more simple than many of the descriptions that you read about but this is how I see it and it works really well for me.

There is one thing that you must remember though before you even start and that is that the product that you intend to give away is of the very highest quality and contains information that people are really interested to learn more about.

In the case of internet marketing the viral product is more often than not in the form of an ebook or short report. Software also works well but I will just talk about ebooks or short reports for now and the subject being internet marketing.

With an ebook you should really base it around something that people in the internet marketing niche are looking for, perhaps Twitter marketing or how to make money with Facebook. The list really is endless so it is worth carrying out a bit of research. A great way of doing this is to take a look at what people are talking about on the internet marketing forums, I guarantee that if you look on something like the Warrior Forum you will get more ideas than you know what to do with.

When you have come up with a subject, write a short report or ebook, don’t worry, it really is far easier than it sounds and even if you don’t feel like doing it yourself you could always outsource it.

You could include affiliate links within the report but you should definitely direct readers of the report to a product or website that you own. I find it works far better if you do this in a subtle way but you should make it clear that you encourage readers to pass the report on to anyone that they know who may be interested.

If you have picked the right subject and produced something that is of high quality you could find that when it does go viral in this way you could have many thousands of people reading what you have got to say and hopefully visiting your website or blog to find out even more.

One thing that I wouldn’t recommend when experimenting with viral marketing is to ask for an email address in order to receive the report. You could well get quite a few responses but in my mind any viral marketing efforts when you do this will be slowed right down and basically dilute the effect of the viral marketing results.

This is something that you could put together over a weekend and you could very well be seeing the results in only a few days time.
