The secret to successful blogging is get the set up correct and then simply keep blogging to build up a relationship with your visitors.
I would always recommend that you use a word press blog and always host it yourself and use your own domain name.
Choose your domain name wisely because you will be building up a brand and then simply post on your blog as regular as possible.
I follow three blogs on a daily basis as they all update every day and I really look forward to reading the latest news. When you have built up a relationship with your readers and they can see you for what you are, i.e. honest and helpful, you will find that if and when you review a product or service, they will only be to eager to go and take a look, so if it is either your product or an affiliate link that you are directing them to, you will find that you will make money.
When blogging I would recommend that you ask questions of your readers about what they are interested in and what information they would like to learn about and compile a free report.
I would then direct them to a download page where you can collect their email address so that they can receive the free download. You will find that the names that make up this list will be highly responsive to your future marketing and will benefit you in the long run.
Compare this helpful attitude to someone who constantly bombards his or her readers with all of the latest offers without any consideration of giving out helpful and friendly advice. I think you can see which one has found the secret to successful blogging.
