The attraction of using a Squidoo lens as part of your internet marketing portfolio is an obvious one and for more reasons than you may realise.  It feels like a lifetime ago since I developed my first Squidoo Lens and even though they are associated with just affiliate marketers the rest of us can use them too!!

I generate new Squidoo lenses every week though my main purpose for them is to build my SEO for my online business but they are on all round traffic boaster too. I have put together a selection of Squidoo tips for you so that you can take your Squidoo lens into traffic overdrive.

Here are my top 10 squidoo lens tips:

1.   Make sure that you populate the lens with quality content and try and update it on a regular basis. Squidoo have been shutting some lens’s down recently and the reason they gave was that they were not being updated on a regular basis and the quality of the content was not up to standard.

2.   A Squidoo lens can be used as link juice to your main website or blog. A keyword rich link can have an extremely positive effect with regards to your ranking within google.

3.   Remember that you are allowed to monetise your lens in various ways so make sure that you take time to do this in the same way that you would with a blog or a website

4.   With regards to the promotion of your squidoo lens you should use exactly the same methods that you would for any other website, getting links, writing articles, blog comments etc, etc. It is quite common to see a Squidoo lens ranked on the first page for any google search and that should tell you all that you need to know.

5.   Before you start creating your lens make sure that the niche that the lens is based on is not on squidoo‘s banned list. Full details can be found on the website but I have known of people create a lens on one of these niches without realising it was banned and then all of their work has gone to waste.

6.   There is a handy little website called Squidutils.com which you should use when you first create your lens. If you sign up and give the details of your lens it will inform various search engines that a new squidoo lens has been created.

7.   A bit of an obvious one now but one that should be mentioned as I have seen quite a few people not do this and then wonder what has gone wrong. This is to simply click on the ‘Publish’ button when you have completed your lens. If you don’t do this your lens will never be seen by the masses.

8.   One method of using a squidoo lens which can be extremely profitable is to write a review about a product or service, A lens really lends itself well to this and the effect can look really impressive if done properly.

9.   Just because there is no charge to use Squidoo don’t think for one minute that it is not a powerful application. I have seen many lesser site builders charge several hundred dollars for less than you are getting with squidoo.

10. There is no limit to the amount of lens’s that you are allowed to have so why not build up a portfolio and take advantage of Squidoo‘s generosity.
