When to outsource your online business – my outsourcing journey
I have always hated the idea of outsourcing my online business, its the thought of someone else taking over the things I have worked hard to create and then doing a bad job of it. The risk that that one person could in fact totally ruin my business forever really scares the hell out of me and thats what can easily happen with outsourcing. For example if you are outsourcing your social media accounts they then have your log in details and can change them all to suit themselves giving you absolutely no power to stop them.
This is the main thing that had put me off outsourcing for years as prior to this the only thing I had ever outsourced were the designs for my numerous mini sites. I soon realised though that Twitter for example would require four hours a day to maintain and this was without even socialising with fellow Twitters. Because I have a higher than average following three hours was required every day just to combat on the level of spammers that were associating themselves with my Twitter account. Then on top of this there was still the need to delete the direct messages, create follow fridays, follow back new followers and post tweets on Twitter.
It was clearly obvious that if I was going to carry on with Twitter I had to bite the bullet and find some help. I then came across a listing on the classifieds section on the Warrior Forum which led me to hire a lady for a full week to see what she could offer me in terms of assistance. She was now my full time virtual assistant and I loved the whole idea of what it could do for my business. Also because I was hiring her from Asia the costs were very low which was an added bonus.
Unfortunately the week was an absolute disaster I was informed before she started that she was trained in Twitter and that there was a trainer in the office that could help her but it simply wasn’t the case. Putting it simply – what I could have done in half a day just didn’t even finish in a week she really was that slow.
This put me right off outsourcing and I didn’t outsource again for about six weeks just for the fear that it was going to go wrong again.
Then I decided to give it another go with http://www.odesk.com they seemed so much better than the agency I had used through the Warrior Forum. With this site you can track through images all the work that your assistant has been doing so that you know what speed they are working at. They are also working direct for you so you don’t have to go through other people which is wonderful.
Since then I have even hired two more people to help with my backlinks for my websites through the website as I am so pleased with the results. I was spending so much time on maintaining Twitter I wasn’t able to get on with what I joined Twitter for. Which was communicating with my followers because after all the other jobs I was simply too tired to do so.
I have learnt a valuable experience from this and that is that if you are to continue as an internet marketer you need to outsource otherwise you business will never go forward to the next level. If you outsource the tasks that take over your day imagine how you could expand your business with those new hours in the day.
I am the type of internet marketer that likes to juggle things – at the moment I’m working with five different partners, creating five niche products and I now have the time to meet these deadlines without the fear of never getting the work done. I feel more relaxed and the money that outsourcing is costing me is covered me the extra cash that my new projects will bring in.
Make sure you have a look at your own business model and look at where you can outsource to bring in the best annual profits. It is also worthwhile to have a mixture of staff for different things including:
*IT – Someone that will carry out quick website/blog changes
*Designer – A mini site designer that will do you the best webdesign work
*Data Entry – You should have at least one data entry assistant that will upload your articles, press releases and bookmark your sites
These are three virtual assistants that we all need and anything else is a bonus. Look at your business find out if there are any jobs that require a lot of your attention and see if you can pass it on to someone else. I eventually took the chance and moved my business in the right direction when the time was right.
Just think of the jobs that take the most of your time and pass them on to someone else. What you need to decide it when to outsource your online business so that you can free up your online time.
