Hi Sam,

I agree with you whole heartedly on the "put in the effort one moment and relax the next" - It's really cool to own websites which quietly earn an income every day for years without any further work. Although I am guilty of creating a lot of extra work for myself by not automating enough.

Totally agree with you Sam. We have exactly the same scenario here in Lanzarote. The problem here is that the tourism market has changed. Where once most tourists were looking for a cheap package, to stay in a complex, to drink and eat in Brit bars, now they are likely to be independent travellers, staying in villas they've organised over the net, and driving cars they've booked the same way.

The new breed of tourist isn't interested in going to a bar that shows Eastenders and Big Brother and serves chips with everything. They travel the island and explore the culture here. The bars and restaurants that do a roaring trade are the Canarian ones. The Brit bars, by and large are struggling. Where running a Brit bar here was once a well paid doddle, it has now become hard work and you need an edge to make decent money. Sadly most of the people running them don't have that edge.
